The Madill basketball teams will visit Kingston to wrap up the regular season Tuesday (Feb. 14). The Madill boys are 18-3 on the year and sit unblemished atop the Lake Country Conference standings. The ‘Cats’ only losses have come at the hands of those outside the LCC. By virtue of the win over Byng on Feb. 4, the Madill boys hold the tiebreaker over the Pirates regardless of Tuesday’s outcome. This is the second time Madill has won the LCC under current head coach Brett Weiberg. Madill’s boys clinched the LCC title back in the 2019-20 campaign. That squad finished 19-7 and concluded the year at the regional tournament. Weiberg arrived in Madill in the spring of 2018.

Prior to that, Madill last held the LCC title in the 2012-13 season.

Madill’s girls have won five games on the year and have competed well down the stretch of the regular season. They stayed with Plainview for much of the night on Friday, before falling 62-55. Madill led late in the game against Marietta on Saturday night before suffering a narrow defeat, 28-27.

The games start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and are expected to be streaming on Madill’s Livestream click here to watch

The Madill-Kingston series has a traveling trophy for each of the basketball games. ‘The Shoe’ in the boys contest is that of Kim (Cass) Larason’s. It was bronzed and it began in the 1981-82 season. The trophy stays with the winner until the other team wins the game on the holder’s home floor. ‘Th Sneaker’ in the girls contest is believed to be Meagan (Carter) Rose’s basketball shoe. That trophy began in 2006.

Kingston currently holds both ‘The Shoe’ and ‘Th Sneaker’ .
