The Madill wrestling schedule has been released for 2024-25. Austin Pettigrew takes over the program as head coach following the retirement of Hall of Fame coach Jim Love. Pettigrew is no stranger to the mat nor Madill. He served as an assistant under Love and was named region 6 girls wrestling coach of the year last winter by the coaches association. His father, Dan Pettigrew, was Madill wrestling head coach in the late 1980s.
Madill has a long history of success on the mat. They won back-to-back team championships in 1992 and 1993. Madill’s Steve Elkins became only the eighth wrestler in Oklahoma to become a four-time state champion in 1995 before signing with the University of Oklahoma.
Madill has had nine individual state champions: Individual State Champs: David Rushing (HW)‘81; Ian Chapman (136) ‘84 & ‘85; Chuck McHatton (141) ‘90; Grant Brown (115) & Steve Elkins (123) ‘92, Steve Elkins (130) & Duke Remington (HW) ‘93; Steve Elkins (135) & Bubba McCullough (103) ‘94; Steve Elkins (142) ‘95; Jerry Furr (130) ‘97; Brent Parkey (171) ‘01, 02, & ‘03
Brayleigh Thompson became the first girl to qualify for the state tournament through regional competition in 2021. Madill now has an official girls team and a boys team.
