The Madill girls basketball team kept fighting to get a 60-53 win over Kingston in overtime Tuesday night inside the Madill Event Center. However, the boys fell 65-46 to the Redskins in the battle for ‘The Shoe’. The shoe is a traveling trophy that dates back to the 1977-78 season. Then Madill head coach of basketball Buddy Capps salvaged an old Converse shoe that was about to be tossed into the trash and eventually bronzed it for what has become the trophy for the basketball boys team. The shoe belonged to Kim Cass Larason.
The girls now have a traveling trophy all their own to represent the Madill-Kingston rivalry. It’s called ‘Th Sneaker’. It was established in 2006 by Meagan Carter Rose
