Madill’s Sadie Stumblingbear scored five of the Lady ‘Cats’ six goals as the team shut out Atoka 6-0 in the soccer season opener at Blake Smiley Stadium. Dylan Ortiz also booted four goals for the Wildcats in a 9-0 win over the Wampus Cats on Alumni Field.
“They played really hard,” Madill girls soccer head coach Jose Cortes said Tuesday. “The future is bright if we play like that.”
Cortes said the Lady ‘Cats’ passes were better and they took more shots at the goal.
“I’m happy that she scored five goals,” Cortes said of Stumblingbear’s performance on offense. “This game against Atoka showed us what she can be and what she can do for us.”
Madill’s girls led 3-0 at the half. Stumblingbear’s first score came with 29:40 left in the first half. And that’s essentially all the scoring that was necessary for the win. Stumblingbear punched through her second goal with 25:49 left in the opening half. Sadie added three more goals and Suzette Lopez kicked the other goal for Madill. Senior Murray State soccer signee goalie Jimena Guevara turned away every shot on goal.
The Wildcats built a 4-0 advantage by halftime. Madill more than doubled its goal production in the second stanza even as reserves played much of the second half. Sammy Trevino powered in two goals. Rey Gomez, Angel Ibarra and Osvaldo Salazar each booted in a goal for Madill.
Miguel Fajardo stopped every shot the Wampus Cats kicked his way in goal for the Wildcats.
“Overall, both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats did a great job,” Cortes said.
