The Madill baseball team beat Plainview twice in district games Thursday to open the season. In game two, the ‘Cats ran away with the contest early and closed out a 19-2 victory. In the first game, Ty Rushing was hit by a pitch while batting to force across the winning run in the person of James Valadez from third base. That gave Madill a 9-8 win in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Madill fell behind 2-1 in the first inning in game one, but rebounded to plate five runs in the second inning and a run in the third frame to build a 7-2 advantage. However, the Indians pushed across a run in the fourth, a run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to knot the contest 7-all. Plainview took the lead in the top half of the seventh before the Wildcats responded with two runs in the bottom of the last frame for victory. Rushing went 2-for-4 from the plate and pushed three RBI across the dish. Cash Coble struck out five Plainview batters from the mound in the starting role Thursday. He also helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double. River Shaw was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Valadez’ hit came at the perfect time when the Wildcats needed it. Eli Vinson, Caden McHatton, and Jackson Roberts each added a hit in game one for Madill. Roberts relieved Coble for the last two innings and surrendered just three hits to record the pitching win from the bump. The ‘Cats pounded out 11 hits to Plainview’s six.
Game two was much different for Madill in terms of ease. They scored three runs in the first, four runs in the second, five runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth to crush Plainview. River Shaw cleared the bases on a double and ended up with five RBI on two hits. Coble was 2-for-4, scored thrice and added an RBI. Stephen Sisco was masterful on the mound as he just gave up two runs on two hits while fanning five Indians at the plate. Sisco’s bat was working, too. He went 2-for-4 and collected an RBI while scoring three times. Rushing came around to score four runs for the Wildcats. Reagan Combs also scored a run. Madill manufactured eight hits and only committed two errors.
