Ty Rushing crossed the plate with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in the baseball team’s 10-9 victory over Wolfe City Thursday in the late game of the Madill/Whitesboro tournament. Andrew Ray tied the game just ahead of Rushing on a play in which Caden McHatton put the ball in play with one out in the last inning. McHatton batted the ball to short stop who then flipped the ball to second to record an out. However, the errant throw out of the reach of the first baseman allowed Rushing to sprint home. Cash Coble hit a home run in the triumph.
Madill held on to defeat Marietta 9-8 in the first game of the day on the local slate. Madill recorded a rare triple play in the top half of the fifth inning which was a catalyst for the victory. The Marietta batter flew out to left. The relay throw from Reagan Combs to James Valadez at second base and transfer throw to River Shaw erased Marietta base runners. The Wildcats clawed back from a 6-2 deficit earlier in the contest.
The Madill boys soccer team crushed the Tigers of Ardmore 6-1 Thursday. However, the Lady ‘Cats lost 6-2 despite two goals from Sadie Stumblingbear. Javier Gomez and Rodrigo Villegas each had two goals for the Madill boys. Zeke Fuentes and Rey Gomez accounted for the other two in Madill’s triumph.
