'Cats Cruise Into Victory Lane as District Champs with Win over Racers Friday

The Madill soccer boys team cruised to a district championship on Friday with a 2-0 shutout of Newcastle on the road to close the regular season. The district championship entitles the Wildcats to host the first two rounds of the Class 4A playoffs which begin May 2. Madill got goals from Fransisco Perez and Javier Gomez on Friday in the triumph against Newcastle. Miguel Fajardo turned in another stellar performance in goal by turning away all of the Newcastle chances to score. Madill finished an unblemished 7-0 in district 4A-1 and holds an overall mark of 12-3 heading into the playofffs.

The Madill girls were defeated on penalty kicks after two overtime sessions could not decide the victor. Norma Veras’ goal gave Madill a lead they held until Newcastle booted the equalizer with 58 seconds left in the second half.
