It didn’t take long for the Madill boys soccer team to put Woodward on its’ heels Monday night. The Wildcats netted two goals within the first three minutes of the match and eventually blasted the Boomers 6-2 to advance to the Class 4A quarterfinals of the playoffs. Madill meets Clinton at 6 p.m. on Friday (May 6) inside Blake Smiley Stadium. Fransisco Perez’s rush to the net and subsequent goal with 38:25 left in the first half broke the scoreless tie early against the Boomers Monday night. Dilan Ortiz kicked the first of his two goals of the night with 37:19 on the clock in the opening half.
“Our passes were crisp. The kids were communicating. Our goal keeper (Miguel Fajardo) did a good job in those crosses. Woodward was one team that scores from set pieces and we worked on those. They didn’t score out of those set pieces,” Madill soccer head coach Jose Cortes said Monday night. “Our kids pressured the entire game. They took their shots when they needed to and we just played a complete game and that’s what made us successful.”
Perez collected three goals on the night. Ortiz finished the evening with two scores and Javier Gomez helped with one goal.
“We really put them on their heels and they had to change their game plan,” Cortes said of the half-dozen goals Madill put on the board.
Miguel Fajardo continued his notable work in net for the ‘Cats. Fajardo has given up just a total of two goals in the last two matches. Madill marches into the round of eight.
