Red Ribbon Week Brings Anything But Backpack Wednesday; Deeper Meaning at Madill

Madill students brought anything but a backpack on Wednesday while observing Red Ribbon Week this week. Red Ribbon Week is a national event with a mission to encourage students to live a drug-free life. The theme this year is ‘Celebrate life. Live Drug Free’. Madill students chose to dress up for designated days with an opportunity to win prizes donated by the Students Against Destructive Decisions chapter at Madill High School sponsored by science teacher Kelly Goff.

Madill’s SADD group began in 1990 then known as Students Against Driving Drunk. Former MHS English teacher and later principal Cindy Dodds began the chapter following the traffic death of then MHS student Nikki Jones.

The week’s emphasis continues through Friday.
