It’s National FFA Week. That brings the annual Marshall County Junior Livestock Show Feb. 23-25. Students have been preparing animal exhibits for month prior to this week. Students will show cows, pigs, sheep and goats in a show ring. A judge will decide which is prepared the best. Students are competing to have exhibits make the premium sale on Saturday night. The premium sale allows students to receive money back from exhibit bidders. The grand and reserve champion exhibits demand the most money. A certain percentage of the entire field of exhibits will make the premuim sale.
The check in time for sheep goats and poultry will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight (Feb. 22). Thursday’s slate begins with the poultry at 9 a.m. and then sheep and goats will take the ring.
Friday will include the pigs and cows in the show ring.
The funds students receive in the premium sale Saturday night usually help with the cost incurred in caring for the animal prior to the livestock show.
