Madill Holds Off Harrah to Get District Win Friday; Rosas Crowned Homecoming Queen

QueenThe Madill defense held off Harrah inside its’ own one-yard line as time expired on the game’s final play as the Panthers were driving for the win. The stop gave Madill its’ first-ever district win in Class 4A at 40-39 at Blake Smiley Stadium Friday. Daisy Rosas won queen and Dakota Vanderberg was announced as king.

A Mateo Fajardo extra point pushed the ‘Cats to a 40-39 edge with 4:24 to go in the game following Asa Robertson’s two-yard touchdown run. 

Harrah took the ball on the ensuing kickoff and were driving for the would-be winning score. On the game’s last snap, the Panthers tried to inch the ball across the goal line but the ‘Cats’ defense held them out of the end zone after a careful check by the officials.

Harrah broke on top with a 67-yard touchdown run by Roberson with 11:36 to go in the first quarter . Jeff Hendrix added a 32-yard run for the Panthers in the first. Bret McDaniel scored on a 22-yard run with 4:57 left in the first quarter for Madill. Robertson scored on a 17-yard scamper with 11:51 left in the second period for the Wildcats. Roberson answered with  a19-yard run for the Panthers at the 10:49 mark left in the first half. Chase Jackson scored with a 25-yard run with 8:15 remaining in the second quarter. Fermin Laffita scored with a 13-yard run at the 4:07 mark of the second quarter for the ‘Cats. Roberson tacked on another TD for the Panthers in the first half and the Panthers held a 32-20 advantage at halftime. However, Madill would go on to allow only seven points the entire second half. The Wildcats’ offense found a rhythm and they rode that wave to outscore Harrah 20-7 in the second half for the victory.

The ‘Cats closed to within 32-27 as Robertson found Ryan Shahan in the end zone on a 31-yard pass at the 8:23 mark of the third frame. Jackson helped Harrah bounce back with a oneyard TD with 2:13 to go in the third. Robertson responded with two TD runs in the final frame to help secure the victory for Madill.
