Girls Basketball Team Moves On with Victory, Boys End Campaign Thursday

Freshman Jayden Weiberg poured in a team-high 13 points on Thursday to lead the Lady Wildcats’ basketball team to a 49-24 victory against Daniel Webster in the consolation bracket at the Byng regional. The girls now play at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in Bethel in another elimination contest.

However, the boys had their season end with a 60-33 loss to the Byng Pirates.

Madill’s girls began quickly on Thursday as Weiberg opened the contest with a three-point basket and really never looked back in a convincing win over the team from Tulsa. The Lady Wildcats’ defense held Webster to single digits in each of the four quarters in the must-win contest. Madill bucketed 12 points in the first, second and fourth quarters. They managed to score 13 in the third frame in the victory. Kristen Chapa collected nine points. Ashlynn Arnold had six points. Ana Veras and Ximena Gomez each scored four points. Mariana Mendez chipped in three points. Abbie Lambertsen, Cielo Gomez, Caitlin Gillis and Brooklyn Nixon each had two points.

The boys trailed 25-12 by halftime and 41-20 by the end of the third quarter in the loss.
