The Madill Wildcats were nipped in overtime by Lone Grove 22-20 on a night the ribbon was cut opening play on installed synthetic turf on Alumni Field at Blake Smiley Stadium.
With less than a minute in the fourth quarter, Madill scored on a John Venable four-yard touchdown run. Fransisco Perez’s extra point tied the game at 14-all.
The game saw the extra frame in which Lone Grove struck first with a Cooper Robinson TD run. Lone Grove pressed ahead with a completed pass to Gavin Peery from Colton Jones to grab the 22-14 edge before Madill got their hands on the ball for its’ offensive series.
Mateo Fajardo found the end zone on a seven-yard run to pull the ‘Cats within two of the ‘Horns. Madill went for two, but Ryan Shahan was denied the goal line and Lone Grove left with the victory.
Lone Grove marched out to a 14-0 by halftime.
Asa Robertson scored on a 40-yard punt return with 10:25 left in regulation play to get Madill on the board.
