“It’s always good to be recognized,” Madill cross country head coach Cale Eidson said of the rankings. “But what really matters is how you finish as a team in the end.”

The poll is voted on by cross country coaches in Oklahoma

The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats won the Cameron Invititational II in Lawton on Sept. 27. That continues a trend of success for the Madill XC program in 2019. Valeria Calderon won the individual girls gold and Miguel Duran took the individual silver for the boys. Four of the top 12 finishers were Lady Wildcats Friday including Calderon, Isabel Sanchez, Joslyn Stumblingbear, and Cielo Gomez. Four of the first 15 runners were Wildcats. That meant Duran, Diego Ibarra, Chris Bennett and Anthony Sanchez.

The boys took second place at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin Sept. 21. The girls were fifth overall in that event.

Both Madill teams took first place in the annual ‘Cat Run Aug. 31 at City Lake. They followed that in the Lake Country Conference race Sept. 7 with the boys claiming the conference crown for the first time since 2010. The girls earned third place overall in the LCC competition.

The Madill boys clinched the team gold during the Tiger Chase at East Central University Sept. 12. The Lady ‘Cats secured second place in the event.

Madill’s Miguel Duran is the defending individual state champion in Class 4A. He has won the individual gold in the Tiger Chase and the LCC run. He claimed a silver medal at the ‘Cat Run. He currently sits sixth among all of Class 4A boys runners. Diego Ibarra is 12th on that same list after having won the silver at East Central.

Calderon took second place individually during the ‘Cat Run in August.
