Madill Sweeps Cross Country Meet in Byng Saturday, Four Teams Adorned with Gold;Watch Coverage

Golden sunshine bathed the Byng cross country course on this crisp Saturday October morning. And the Madill cross country teams left with the golden plaques for sweeping the meet as champions across each division. The Class 4A No. 2 Madill High School girls and No. 3 Madill High School boys began the day by winning the team crown.

“I was really proud of how they came out prepared to run and compete this morning,” Madill cross country head coach Cale Eidson said Saturday. “To get ready for regionals next week, we’ll start a small taper of our miles and workouts to help get some rest.”

Madill’s high school boys edged host Byng 43-45. Miguel Duran was the runner-up in the competition  He turned in a time of 17:36.54. The ‘Cats had five runners in the top 16 today. Diego Ibarra finished fifth, Chris Bennett was ninth, Brodie Tull was 14^th and Anthony Sanchez was 16^th.

The Lady ‘Cats were paced by Valeria Calderon’s 13:42.26. That allowed her to secure the individual silver medal. Isabel Sanchez finished fourth, Joslyn Stumblingbear was fifth, Mercedes Stumblingbear was seventh, Destiny Adams was eighth, and Lala Flores checked in at 10^th . Camilla Hernandez, Cielo Gomez, and Maritsa Mendez all finished in the top 16. They run in the Class 4A regional in Waurika at 10 a.m. on Oct. 19. Click for Information Sheet on Regional

The Madill junior high boys and girls followed that performance by winning the younger division team titles.James Valadez came through in fourth place to lead the Madill boys. The girls narrowly missed a perfect score. It was a clean sweep of the top medals as Allyson Webb grabbed gold with a 9:57.64. Yadira Barbosa claimed the silver and Yvette Ariciaga left with the bronze medal.
