Madill Junior High Cross Country Girls Achieve State Championship Thursday; JH Boys Second; Results

cross countryThe Madill junior high girls cross country team claimed the state title Thursday with five runners finishing in the top 23 in the Class 4A division at Chickasha. The Madill boys had five runners reach the top 24 and were only eclipsed by Poteau in the team standings to finish as the state runner-up in Class 4A. 

“I was very proud for the girls to win state,” Madill cross country head coach Cale Eidson said of Thursday’s effort. “They worked hard all year and definitely earned it. The boys obviously wanted to win it, but they worked just as hard and ran the best they could and you can never be disappointed in that.”

The girls had 57 points in the championship event paced by the individual champion Allyson Webb with a time of 8:35.38. Yadira Barbosa was fifth overall in a time of 9:30.18. Esperanza Hernandez was 14th with her time of 9:52.24. Korlee Cunningham ran to 16th in a time of 9:56.23. Kaia Henry ran a 10:07.15. The second place team was Kingfisher with 68 total points.

The boys collected 92 points overall. James Valadez was the top Madill runner. He finished 14th with his time of 12:48.37. Armando Gonzalez turned in a time of 12:54.43 for 20th. Jose Campos was immediately behind him to finish in 21st with his time of 12:55.96. Ryder Douglas was 23rd and Osvaldo Ariciaga was 24th. Poteau was the team champion with 61 total points.
