'Cats Cross Country Teams Capture Penultimate Prize, Return as Regional Champs Saturday; Watch Video

cross countryThe Madill cross country teams have dominated 2019 in this region of Oklahoma. Now, they have the hardware to prove it. The Madill girls and boys won the team championship in the Class 4A regional meet in Waurika Saturday morning. Miguel Duran won the individual boys championship in the event. Valeria Calderon secured second place as an individual on the girls’ side of the class.

The girls were paced by Caleron’s 12:20.25. Isabel Sanchez clocked in at 10th with her 13:07.52. Joslyn Stumblingbear ran to 12th in 13:08.51. Mercedes Stumblingbear followed her in 16th . Lala Flores was 17th , Cielo Gomez was 19th and Destiney Adams arrived at 25th.

Five of the Madill boys reached the top 10 in Waurika. Duran led all runners to the chute in 17:00.27.  Diego Ibarra picked up the bronze in third. Chris Bennett ran to fifth overall. Brodie Tull was eighth and Anthony Sanchez checked in 10th. Madill now advances to the state meet Oct. 26 in Shawnee as a team. The 4A portion is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the Gordon Cooper Tech Center.
