Madill Band Reaching Regional Wednesday Bolstered by Growth, Sparkling Performances

Take a survey of the landscape that comprises the Madill High School campus. One quickly realizes there are new structures taking shape on every corner. One of the most prominent structures is the fine arts facility and a new place for the band to boom tunes. The Madill band has seen a resurgence in recent years guided by the direction of Kendal Hasty.

The band’s numbers have increased exponentially since Hasty’s arrival at MHS. He began with less than 50 members. Now, the band features about 150 students that can be seen on Friday nights stretched across the gridiron for halftime performances. They showcase the work of the legendary musician Paul Simon in 2019. They also are sporting new uniforms on the field.

How good is the Madill band ? Well, they won the Class 4A sweepstakes by garnering the most points in the parade and field competition at the Pauls Valley contest Sept. 28. They were first in parade competition and third in field competition. They earned outstanding drum line honors in Class 4A in the field and parade event. Madill just missed winning the entire event by a mere five points. The took first place in the parade portion of the Chickasaw Festival Extravaganza Oct. 5 in Tishomingo. They secured second in the field competition. Hasty’s Madill band continues to reach new heights.

Madill now moves to the regional marching contest Wednesday (Oct. 23) in McAlester. They warm up at 1:36 p.m. and perform at 1:48 p.m. Click for Regional Performance Schedule
