Madill scored the most points in head coach Todd Vargas’ tenure in a rain-soaked 57-32 victory against McLoud Friday on the road. The triumph was the Wildcats’ second in district play in 2019.
Weather was a factor in the contest. Players toiled under a steady rain and atop a slick surface throughout the night. But, Madill stormed out of the gate to build a 22-0 advantage by the 5:40 mark of the opening frame. McLoud managed to get on the board with 23 seconds left in the first. It was Mateo Fajardo finding the end zone first for Madill in the contest.
A 49-yard touchdown run by Asa Robertson in the second stanza gave Madill a 28-8 cushion. The Redskins cut the lead to 28-14 with score at the 4:49 mark in the second. Robertson went on a 64-yard jaunt to push the ‘Cats edge to 35-14 with Fajardo’s extra point. Trey Gammill took the ball to end zone from 40 yard away with 3:01 remaining in the half for Madill.
The ‘Skins got to paydirt with7:07 to go in the third. John Venable added TD runs of 10 yards and 40 yards for the ‘Cats to salt away the victory in the second half.
