Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign to encourage school students to continue to live a productive life without illegal drugs. The Madill High School chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions leads out in the local effort. The chapter sponsor is Kelly Goff. Dress-Up days have been planned throughout this week.
Tuesday was Mix and Match day. Wednesday will be Nerd day, Thursday is Halloween day and Friday is Black & Gold Day. Students have the opportunity to win prizes.
“It’s important to remain drug free because drugs make your body shut down,” Madill freshman Jessie Phillips said. “And they can cause illness and you can become very sick. And they could lead to death if you don’t watch it.”
“I think it’s important to stay clear off drugs because it keeps you more productive and you can have fun without intoxication,” Madill senior class president Alejandra Salas said. “Dependence and addiction isn’t fun and it’s very hard to quit.”
The Madill chapter of SADD was established in 1990 by former MHS principal and English instructor Cindy Dodds following the death of a student in an alcohol-related automobile accident.
