Following her fourth place finish in the Class 4A state cross country meet Oct.26, Madill all-state runner Valeria Calderon will test her skills in the meet of champions at Carl Albert on Nov. 9. The girls event begins at 9 a.m.
“Great,” Calderon said about finishing fourth as an individual at state in Shawnee.
She was the Lady ‘Cats’ top performer in the championship event that saw the team claim the silver trophy as state runners up.
Calderon is the first female XC runner to achieve all-state status during the tenure of head coach Cale Eidson.
“Her running the way she did was very, very impressive,” Eidson said of Calderon’s performance at state. “She’s worked so hard.”
The cross country program has steadily improved under the leadership of Eidson. The boys and girls were fifth as a team at state in 2018. In 2019, the girls were runners up and the boys earned third place overall on the podium.
