The 2019 Madill Winter Classic basketball tournament schedule was released Wednesday night for the event Dec. 5-7 inside the Wildcat Fieldhouse on the MHS campus.
The tournament dates back to 1999. This year will feature Marietta, Dickson, Sulphur, Pilot Point, Putnam Heights and Madill.
“I think the classic’s a great thing we do here at Madilll. Have some good teams in it,” Madill boys basketball head coach Brett Weiberg said. “Should be competitive games across the board. And I think you’ll see from our kids, you’ll see kids really competing and kids really trying to play the right way and having some fun while we’re doing it.”
Weiberg begins his second season at the helm since arriving from filling the head coach’s role for the NCAA’s Missouri Western men’s team.
“I love playing in the Winter Classic,” Madill senior basketball player Kristen Chapa said. “It’s such a fun experience. The evironment’s really like good to play in.”
Chapa finished second in a Vype basketball fan poll that included the Durant area in Oklahoma. She amassed more than 13,000 votes last week.
