In life, there are challenges and there are opportunities. The Madill girls basketball team took advantage of its’ opportunity Tuesday to claim “ th Sneaker” for the first time since 2014 with a 62-57 victory at the Kingston Multi-Purpose Activity Center over the Lady Redskins.
“Girls played hard tonight. Did things we worked on,” Madill girls head coach Shawn Runyan said of the victory. “I’m super proud of them. It was a big win.”
The Lady Wildcats fell behind 12-11 to the Kingston club that made a state tournament appearance a season ago. Madill converted fast break chances with breakaway layups and built a 34-20 cushion by intermission.
The second half only saw Madill control the tempo and kept Kingston from coming back in the battle.

Th Sneaker is a traveling trophy established in 2006 to be awarded to the winner of the Madill-Kingston girls basketball series each year. The opposing team must win it back on the holder’s home floor.
The boys battled the defending state champs well for four quarters of regulation play. They held the lead in three of the five quarters played on Tuesday night. However, Kingston gained the edge and won 40-32 in the overtime session.
The ‘Cats broke out to the 10-6 lead by the end of the first. Madill marched to half with the 21-15 edge. Madill led 28-24 by the close of the third frame. It was tied 32-all by the close of the fourth.
