Maxey Shot Forces OT, 'Cats Take out Tishomingo in Extra Frame; Lady Wildcats Win Big Tuesday

Austin Maxey hit a 30-foot shot on the right wing from the letter M on the basketball floor as time expired in regulation play for Madill to force overtime in a 46-all tie Tuesday. Madill’s defense shut out Tishomingo in the extra frame for the 51-46 win at the Wildcat Fieldhouse. 

The Madill boys fell behind 11-7 by the end of the first quarter. The ‘Cats trailed 20-16 at the half. Madill then was behind 34-30 at the end of the third quarter. But, the ‘Cats kept clawing and got key play from Ezekiel Fuentes, Miguel Duran and Asa Robertson down the stretch.

Maxey caught the pass looped from Ezekiel Fuentes over a defender across the timeline with just two seconds left in the fourth frame and buried the three-pointer as the buzzer sounded to warrant the extra time in Tuesday’s contest. The Indians had just taken a 46-43 lead with 4.9 seconds left in the fourth. The ‘Cats outscored Tish 5-0 to close out the win.

Duran led the way with 15 points, Fuentes collected 12, Maxey delivered nine, Asa Robertson chipped in six, Wyatt Gray added four, Javier Gomez had three, Aron Vann had two and Trent Harvey had one on the night.

The Madill girls bolted out to a 9-2 advantage by the end of the first quarter and never looked back in a 36-16 win Tuesday.

They doubled the offense in the second quarter to hold an 18-4 halftime lead. The Lady ‘Cats added another nine points in the third quarter to own a 27-9 advantage.

Jayden Weiberg led the way for the Lady ‘Cats with 17. Kristen Chapa had five and Braylee Schneider added four in the victory.
