The Madill varsity basketball teams scored twin wins against Lone Grove Tuesday night. The girls won 45-42 in overtime and the ‘Cats handled the ‘Horns 36-26. Kristen Chapa won homecoming queen and decided to share the crown with fellow senior Ashlynn Arnold. Trent Harvey was named king.
In the girls contest, Madill was again led by a game-high 19 points from sophomore Jayden Weiberg on her birthday. It was a 20-19 game at the half. Mariana Mendez had eight points in the paint, Chapa chipped in seven points on the evening and Joslyn Stumblingbear had two points. Abbie Lambertsen hit key free throws in the waning moments of the game.
Madill opened the boys game on an 8-0 run and owned a 13-2 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Lone Grove slowly closed the gap to 20-15 by intermission. The ‘Cats clawed their way to a 28-20 edge by the end of the third frame. Miguel Duran had a team-leading 17 points for the evening. Southern Nazarene football commit Asa Robertson added eight points. Aron Vann threw in four points as did the king Trent Harvey. Zeke Fuentes had three points.
Madill travels to Comanche Friday. The Lady ‘Cats have a mark of 10-7 and the Wildcats are 12-5.
