Madill Boys Secure Win over Sulphur; Lady 'Cats Lose to Ranked Lady 'Dogs Tuesday

The Madill boys rolled to a fourth victory in a row behind a team-leading 23 points from sophomore guard Ezekiel Fuentes and 12 points from junior guard Miguel Duran. Madill downed the Bulldogs 48-33 on Tuesday night in the Wildcat Fieldhouse. The Madill girls basketball squad lost 74-41 to a ranked Sulphur team despite Jayden Weiberg’s team-high 14 points on the night.

The Wildcats started hot and owned a 14-6 advantage by the end of the first quarter. Transition buckets from tenacious defense were the order of the day. The ‘Cats pushed the pace in the second quarter to forge a 27-20 edge by the intermission. Fuentes and Duran fueled to the perimeter offense while Gray and Robertson patroled the paint. That mix of team chemistry provided Madill with a 38-28 cushion by the close of the third. Aron Vann was sharp on defense, as well for Madill. Then, the ‘Cats up comfortably in the final frame, milked the clock on offense for the 15-point triumph. Robertson finished with eight points and Gray tossed in five on the night.

The No. 13 Lady Bulldogs played as though they deserved the high ranking in class 4A Tuesday with only one loss coming into the action Feb. 4 against Madill. The Lady ‘Cats trailed 39-16 at the half and 59-32 by the end of the third frame. Madill battled tough, but could not overcome the overall strength of Sulpur on Tuesday.

Madill plays at Dickson Feb. 7.

Lynise Parrish won the Madill teacher of the year award as announced at halftime of the girls game.
