Boys Collect another Victory, Poised for Conference Title Monday; Girls Lose Close Contest; Watch

The Wildcats have now stretched the current winning streak to seven games with the59-46 win against Atoka on the road Friday night. The Lady Wildcats stayed close throughout the contest down to the wire, but eventually fell 60-54.

The boys now have an opportunity to win the Lake Country Conference championship for the first time since 2013. They must win at Marietta Monday as the regular season closes. Winners of 17 games already, a win Monday would provide a powerful punctuation mark to a stellar regular-season campaign.

The ‘Cats only led Atoka 13-11 by the end of the first. But, began to distance themselves by scoring 19 points in the second frame to hold a 32-20 edge at the intermission. Madill poured in the points to begin the second half to best Atoka 17-10 in the third stanza on the strength of perimeter shooting from Wyatt Gray and Ezekiel Fuentes. Miguel Duran continued his tremendous place during the winning streak by collecting a team-leading 20 points on the night. Madill completely controlled the fourth frame to win with ease Friday. Gray concluded the evening with 11 points, Fuentes fueled the offensive power with nine, Aron Vann chipped in six points, as did Southern Nazarene University signee Asa Robertson, Austin Maxey tossed in five points and Asa’s brother Kendall added two points.

The Madill girls marched out to a 12-7 lead by the end of the first completely provided by senior Kristen Chapa. Madill had 12 points and Chapa had them all. Atoka overtook Madill 21-20 by halftime. But, the Lady ‘Cats weren’t going away. They battled each possession and were within 40-35 by the end of the third. 

It was 50-49 with 3:08 remaining in the contest. Ximena Gomez made a bucket to pull the Lady ‘Cats within 54-52 of Atoka. Abbie Lambertsen sank a free throw for Madill to trail only 55-53. Chapa’s shot from the charity stripe made it 59-54 with 21.8 seconds showing in the game. Chapa recorded 24 points to pace the team tonight. Lambertsen pitched in 10 points for the effort. Braylee Schneider had eight points,  Jayden Weiberg threw in six points, Joslyn Stumblingbear had four points and Gomez had two.
