Logan Beard stopped by Madill High School Wednesday to recount the days he was a student-athlete for the Wildcats. The Madill alum was on the boys basketball squad that claimed the Class B boys basketball state championship back in March of 1960. The “big house” was municipal auditoruim in Oklahoma City for the state tournament. It was on a raised court with less than ideal flooring. Yet, the bunch from Madill brought back the state championship trophy 60 years ago this month. The ‘Cats conquered Canton in the quarterfinals, sent Spiro home in the semifinals and grabbed the golden trophy by beating Beggs Wheatly 66-47 in the championship contest.
Beard discusses his role with the team, his teammates, coaches and the community’s response to having a state championship in boys basketball in the video. The video is segmented into three parts.
Beard is now retired after having been a dentist in Madill and operating his own practice. He also earned a pharmacy degree.
