Madill senior Ximena Gomez scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Marietta 8-7 on Tom Reynolds Field Monday night.
The Wildcats battled Marietta and slugged 17 hits on the afternoon. Madill broke out to a 3-1 advantage in the first inning. The Lady Wildcats added a run in the second inning. Marietta then scored a run in each of the next two frames to pull within 4-3 by the fourth inning. Madill plated three runs in the fifth to stretch its lead to 7-3. Marietta responded with four runs in the top half of the sixth to tie the score 7-all. Neither team was able to score in the seventh and forced the extra frame.
Jaeda Townsend tripled in the bottom half of the eighth. Gomez drew a walk. Krislyn Anderson walked and Townsend was thrown out at the plate. Gomez advanced to third on a steal and then stole home with Cheyenne Lansdale batting for the Lady ‘Cats.
Gomez was 3-for-3 from the plate. Senior Abbey Tiernan was 2-for-4 from the plate and scored a couple of runs. Catcher Dez Kerley went 3-for-4 at the dish, scored two runs and collected an RBI. Peyton Arnold drove in two while going 2-for-4 from the plate. Townsend finished the day with three hits. Lansdale had a hit and scored a run.
Arnold picked up the pitching win.
