Madill moved its’ record to 2-2 on the year. More importantly, Friday’s 24-14 win against Dickson made them 1-0 in district play.
Brandon Stevens’ six-yard touchdown run with 6:05 to go in the first quarter started the scoring for the ‘Cats. Nick Northcutt intercepted a Johnny Smith pass to thrwart a Dickson drive at the five yard line. Later, Smith rushed into the end zone from 11 yards out for Dickson to tie the score 7-all with 7:20 left before halftime. Rodrigo Villegas booted a 25-yard field mgoal to put Madill in front 10-7 with 21 seconds remaining in the first half.
Madill junior quarterback Kendall Robertson stretched the Wildcats’ lead on the strength of his 17-yard TD jaunt at the 4:32 mark of the third period. Smith scored for Dickson to pull within 17-14.
The ‘Cats again widened the margin to 10 points when River Shaw hauled in a 16-yard TD pass from Robertson with 5:28 left in the game.
Madill faces Sulphur Oct. 2 for homecoming. Kickoff is planned for 7 p.m.
