The Madill band earned a superior rating from judges at the OSSAA regional contest in Atoka Wednesday for the first time since 1995.
“This basically puts us on the state championship bracket. By getting 1 we completed the 1st of 3 parts. Now we have to do well in concert season. If we get 1s at district and the end of February we will go to State in early spring (mar/apr). If we get 1 on stage, and sightreading combined with this 1 we warned today.. we earn the State Sweeptakes Award which is the music equivalent to a state championship,” Madill band director Kendal Hasty said
They have been performing the music of California’s grammy-winning punk-rock band Green Day. Today, that performance was golden for the Madill group under the direction of Hasty, Samantha Faulkner and Cayden Howard.
Just this year, the Madill band entered its’ newly constructed confines of the fine arts facility on the campus of Madill High School.
The band member numbers have been growing exponentionally since the arrival of Hasty.
