Madill Girls Win Consolation Final Saturday, Weiberg Named to All-Tourney Team; Watch on Demand

The Madill Lady Wildcats basketball team built a sizable second-quarter lead and held off Pauls Valley to win 48-41 and take the consolation title in the Atoka Wampuscat Classic tournament Saturday.

The Madill defense pressured the Lady Panthers throughout the contest. Pauls Valley held a slim 15-12 edge by the end of the first frame. However, Madill marched out to score 18 points in the second period and held Pauls Valley to a mere three points with stout defense. 

The Lady ‘Cats only surrendered nine points in the third frame. Pauls Valley did outscore Madill 14-6 in the fourth, but Madill managed to get the victory by seven points.

All tournament selection Jayden Weiberg led the way for Madill with her 14 points on the afternoon that included two treys. Joslyn Stumblingbear and Braylee Schneider each had eight points. Aubrey Cantrell had five points. Abby Lambertsen collected three points. Ana Veras, Alyssa Cantrell, Ximena Gomez, Cielo Gomez and Mariana Mendez contributed two points apiece.

Madil hosts Comanche for homecoming Jan. 26 and then welcomes Atoka for afternoon games Saturday (Jan. 30) at 2 p.m.
