The Madill boys left no doubt in a 58-19 triumph over Plainview. However, the Lady Wildcats suffered a 60-35 loss to the Plainview club Friday night at home.
Although Plainview pushed out to an early 5-0 lead in the first frame, the ‘Cats eventually climbed out of the deficit and grabbed the 10-5 edge by the end of the quarter and never looked back.
The second quarter was the ‘Cats’ most productive offensively. They outscored the Indians 21-2 in the second period and went to the locker room with a comfortable 31-7 lead by halftime.
Many reserves saw action in the second half while playing valuable minutes ahead of the district playoff slate.
Ezekiel Fuentes and senior Miguel Duran fired in a team-best 11 points each in the win. Sophomore Stephen Sisco netted nine points and all of them were from beyond the arc. Mason Coles sent in seven points. River Shaw and RJ Morris tossed in six points apiece. Nick Northcutt canned five points and Hayden Harper nailed a three-point shot.
The girls felt the power of the No. 17 team as Plainview held the 16-10 edge by the conclusion of the first stanza. The Lady Indians maintained the 25-19 lead by the half. Junior Jayden Weiberg connected on five three-point shots to pace the Lady ‘Cats with 20 points on the evening. Ximena Gomez chipped in seven points. Braylee Schneider had four points in the paint. Beth Coleman and Josyln Stumblingbear each produced a bucket.
Madill is scheduled to play at Kingston Feb. 16 to wrap the regular season.
