The Madill basketball teams suffered setbacks at the hands of the Blanchard squad in the district playoffs on the road Tuesday. The Lady ‘Cats lost 72-32 and the Wildcats fell 47-28. The losses force Madill to win on Thursday in the regional tournament at Ada to stay afloat in the postseason. The girls play Ada at 1 p.m. with the boys taking on Stigler at 3 p.m.
Madill’s boys were tied 6-all at the end of the first frame and only trailed 14-10 by halftime. However, the Lions then outscored the ‘Cats 20-8 in the third quarter for the 34-18 advantage after three periods of play. Ezekiel Fuentes had a team-leading 10 points for Madill. Miguel Duran added seven points. Nick Northcutt had six points. Javier Gomez and Yovanny Robles chipped in two points apiece, with Mason Coles sinking a free throw.
Jayden Weiberg’s 13 points led the way for the Lady ‘Cats. Madill stuck close in the first half and retreated to the locker room down 33-24. The third frame is when Blanchard pulled away, by scoring 23 points to Madill’s one. Abby Lambertsen had five points. Braylee Schneider had four points. Lydia Landgraf and Hannah Elkins had three points. Ximena Gomez had a bucket. Mariana Mendez and Aubrey Cantrell had one point each.
