A fumble recovery with eight seconds left in the game by Madill’s Josh Schneider sealed a 17-14 victory for the ‘Cats on the gridiron for homecoming Friday. Yovanny Robles booted a 30-yard field goal with 25 seconds to go to give Madill the edge. Dickson tried the hook-and-lateral play on the ensuing drive but the ball tumbled to the turf where Schneider scooped it up. The ‘Cats kneeled the ball to run off the time for the win.
Even though Dickson was winless, the Comets didn’t play like it. The Comets held Madill’s potent offense that had scored 48.6 points per game this year to zero in the first quarter. Dickson took the lead in the second quarter on an 87-yard touchdown run by Bennett. Kendall Robertson connected with Stephen Sisco on a 16-yard TD pass to pull within 8-7. The Comets stretched the lead to 14-7 on a TD run by Johnny Smith in the third frame. Robertson found Nick Northcutt with a 12-yard scoring strike to tie the game 14-all with less than eight minutes left.
Autumn Bryant won homecoming queen and Kendall Robertson won king.
The freshmen won the float contest with ‘Wipeout’ in the music themed parade.
