Madill Students Plan Walk to School on Wednesday

Hundreds of Madill students are set to gather at Madill’s William Ray Memorial Park at 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday to participate in the annual Walk to School event observed across America. This is to promote healthy and active lifestyles for students in the future.

“Children benefit from active commuting. They show higher academic achievement, better cognitive performance, and improved executive functioning,” Oklahoma State Department of Health health equity specialist Bre Eppler said. “Walking outdoors reduces stress, anxiety, and depression, it also allows engagement to increase physical activity, and exposure to community environments.”

Several Madill High School students are expected to help in the effort by helping guide younger students walking on the street to the school campus.
