Wildcat Weekend: XC Teams Run in Regional; Football Hosting 'Horns on Pink-Out Night, Link to Watch

The Madill football team is set to host the Lone Grove Longhorns Friday at 7 p.m. inside Blake Smiley Stadium in a key district game. The ‘Cats are 4-3 on the year and the ‘Horns are arriving at 5-2. The Wildcats are 18-12 against Lone Grove since 1978, but the Lone Grove team has won two meetings in a row. Madill is producing 29.1 points per contest and the defense is allowing just 20.2 points per game. In the series, Madill has recorded six shutouts and six of the games have been decided by eight points or less. The winner will have the upper hand on playoff positioning. The top four teams in each district make the playoffs. Right now, Lone Grove is 3-1 in district play with victories over Plainview, Pauls Valley and Dickson. Madill stands at 1-3 in the district. The ‘Cats have not been in the postseason since 2016. That year, the Wildcats finished 6-5 with an exit in the first round of the playoffs. It will be pink-out night for the football contest on Friday. Shirts have been previously sold and the money raised from those sales will benefit cancer research. 

The Madill varsity cross country teams run in the OSSAA Class 4A regional at noon on Saturday in Waurika. The girls team is No. 8 in Class 4A in the latest poll published by OHSTrack. Isabel Sanchez has the seventh best time in the class headed into the meet at 12:22.58. The Madill boys are No. 24 in Class 4A. Anthony Sanchez continues to lead the Madill boys. He was 10^th as an individual at the pre-state meet at Edmond Santa Fe. The boys run at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. Qualifying athletes from the regional will run at state slated for 2:05 p.m. on Oct. 30 at Edmond Santa Fe.
