A converted first down on a fourth down and short for Lone Grove at the ‘Horns’ 15-yard line with 2:27 left in Friday’s game closed the door on Madill’s attempt to win over the Longhorns. Lone Grove went away from Blake Smiley Stadium with a 28-21 win.
Madill had come back from to lead 21-20 on the strength of Jimena Guevara’s extra point in the third frame after falling behind 20-0. Kendall Robertson’s second touchdown of the evening on a two-yard run tied the game.
Lone Grove scored first on a 62-yard TD on the opening drive of the game. Shawn Johnson’s 14-yard TD catch had pushed the ‘Horns’ lead to 13-0 to go in the first. A fourth-quarter score gave the Longhorns the lead for good.
