The Madill football team heads down Highway 70 six miles to face Kingston at 7 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are 4-4 in 2021. Kingston is 2-3 in district and the ‘Cats are 1-4 in district play. The Wildcats are coming off a tough 28-21 loss to Lone Grove in a game that saw Madill take a 21-20 advantage after falling behind 20-0. A late fourth down conversion on the game’s final drive sealed the contest for Lone Grove. Kendall Robertson accounted for all three Madill touchdowns last Friday. He threw a touchdown pass to Stephen Sisco and added two touchdowns on the ground. The loss to Lone Grove eliminated Madill from playoff contention in 2021. Still, an opportunity to post a winning season for the first time since 2016 and get a win against a notable rival remains for this year’s club.
"It's very important. I think our kids understand the importance of this game in the community. But more than anything, our kids want to go compete. We obviously started out well but have come up short in recent weeks. The last 2 weeks have been hard because we had opportunities to come away with a win and we fell just short," Madill football head coach Chad Speer said. "They have had a great attitude. Very proud of how they have competed. Looking forward to Friday night."
Since 1980, Madill is 29-10 against Kingston. They have strung together three six-game winning streaks in the series that has gone by ‘Madill County Super Bowl’ and ‘Battle of the Underpass’. Madill has posted seven shutouts against Kingston in those four decades. It includes three straight shutouts from 1980-82. The Wildcats are 5-2 against the Redskins as district oppenents. Kingston won the district matchup a season ago. The first game between Madill and Kingston was believed to have taken place on Oct. 14, 1910. It was a 15-0 loss for the ‘Cats. Kingston has not always had a football program in its’ school history according to county historians. Madill’s junior varsity team played Kingston in 1974. It was played each year from 1980 to 2017. It was not sheduled 2018 or 2019 as the Wildcats moved up to Class 4A. Madill will again return to Class 4A for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The Class 4A state cross country meet is slated for 2:35 p.m. at Edmond Santa Fe High School on Saturday. The Madill girls qualified as a team through the regional at Waurika. Isabel Sanchez reached the top of the podium as the regional champion in her season-best time of 12:17.15. Senior Anthony Sanchez and freshman James Valadez punched a ticket for state as individual boys.
The Madill girls moved up a spot to No. 7 in the latest rankings for Class 4A.
“I feel good about the girls and their mindset going into Saturday, anything is possible,” Madill head coach Cale Eidson said. “Anthony and James have a good opportunity to go run well and represent Madill.”

Three high school vocalists will have the first round of auditions for all-state on Saturday in Ada on the East Central campus. Those students are Molly Coleman, Kenzie Mathis and Abby Zang. According to Madill music director Samantha Faulkner, these vocalist have to advance to another round of auditions in November through this round of auditions tomorrow. They could reach all-state status if they advance through the auditions.
