It is Red Ribbon week at Madill High School. Red Ribbon Week’s annual campaign is to encourage students across America to remain living a drug-free lifestyle. The local Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) at MHS has helped organize the week. Science instructor Kelly Goff is the sponsor.
They have decorated the halls and offered prizes to those students that have dressed up on designated days. Each student was issued a red ribbon and has received prizes.
Why is it important to remain drug-free in life?
“To keep our lungs clean,” Madill student Norma Veras said.
This year’s national theme is: Drug Free Looks Like Me
The Madill High School Chapter of SADD was established in 1990 by then English teacher Cindy Dodds following the death of then student Nikki Jones in an alcohol-related automobile accident in January of that year. Dodds later became principal at MHS before her retirement. The name of the organization was changed in 1997 from Students Against Drunk Driving.
