The weekend is arriving. The football team will close the 2021 season Friday night as it welcomes Little Axe to Blake Smiley Stadium for a district contest at 7 p.m. It has the opportunity to post a winning record for the first time since 2016. The ‘Cats can also equal the number of victories (6) that Madill recorded five years ago.
The 2021 Wildcats are coming off a thrilling 36-35 triumph over Kingston Oct. 29 in the ‘Marshall County Super Bowl’.
"They have a chance to end the year on a great note and the school’s first winning season in 5 years so that is a great testament to them!" Madill football head coach Chad Speer said.
Madill is 1-0 against the Indians with the only meeting in 2020. That was a 56-12 win for the ‘Cats on the road. Little Axe is winless in 2021 and has been shut out three times. Madill is coming in at 5-4 on the year. The ‘Cats average scoring 29 points per contest and allow 22.7. Little Axe scores 8.6 points a game and allows 48.1 points per contest to opponents. No team has scored less than 31 points against the Indians all year.
The seniors will be celebrated Friday. Last week, Madill’s senior Kendall Robertson accounted for all five touchdowns. He scored four on the ground and added a TD pass to River Shaw.
The senior recognition begins at 6:30 p.m.

Madill all-state cross country runner Isabel Sanchez plans to run in the meet of champions at 9 a.m. Saturday at North Rock Creek in Shawnee. Sanchez earned the opportunity by placing in the top 10 in the Class 4A state meet in Edmond Oct. 30. She is the reigning regional champion as she posted her season-best time of 12:17.15 in Waurika Oct. 23. Sanchez paced the Lady ‘Cats all year and helped them to finish fifth as a team at state a week ago. Sanchez is expected to sign to run cross country for Southwestern in Weatherford in college next year. A signing ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 at the Madill fine arts lobby on the MHS campus.
"Isabel (Sanchez) will be a great addition to the Southwestern program," Madill cross country head coach Cale Eidson said. "She's a hard worker, very dedicated to what she does, and a very coachable athlete and person. We're lucky to still have one more season of track with her."
