Madill junior Abby Zang earned her way into the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OKMEA) All-State Treble Chorus and sang during the state convention over the weekend in Tulsa.
“She represented not only our school, but our community extremely well with her hard work, dedication and pure talent,” Madill High School vocal music teacher Samantha Faulkner said.
Zang participated in three separate auditions to reach the all-state status and perform in the prestigious group. Two auditions were held in the fall. The third audition was completed on site at the convention inside the Performing Arts Center in Tulsa.
“With the vocal auditions they have 4 songs they start out the year with. This year it contained a song in Latin, a song in German, a lyrical piece and then a technical piece. Each audition she took part in they took different parts from a mix of the songs. It included the lyrical, the German, and the Latin songs,” Faulkner said about the competitions earlier in the year.
“Ms. Zang took her place and did a tremendous job performing with the OKMEA All-State Treble Chorus,” Faulkner said of Zang’s participation over the weekend.
Zang is believed to be the first Madill student in recent history to achieve the honor of the OKMEA All-State Treble Chorus.
