Jayden Weiberg poured in 37 points to help the Lady ‘Cats beat Lone Grove 66-46 in basketball Tuesday night at home. She was joined in double-figure scoring by fellow senior Braylee Schneider with 13 points.
The Lady ‘Cats really left no doubt as they raced out to a 21-9 advantage by the end of the first stanza. Although Lone Grove closed the gap to 34-25 by intermission, Madill still held the three-possession cushion. Madill continued to build on the bulge in the third quarter and ended it by leading 50-37. The Lady ‘Cats outscored Lone Grove 16-9 in the final frame.
Allyson Knight added seven points, Joslyn Stumblingbear tossed in six points and Hannah Elkins had two points in the victory. It is the second consecutive win for the girls. Weiberg was just five points from breaking the single-game scoring mark for Madill girls 5-on-5 basketball. That mark is held by Laura Hamilton who scored 41 in 1999.
The boys battled a tough Longhorn team in the first frame and managed an 11-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Madill used the combination of the perimeter and the paint game to widen the advantage to 27-14 by intermission. Lone Grove made a minirun to get within seven points at 32-25 by the end of the third period. However, Madill pushed the pace and ended the game winning by 14 points. Nick Northcutt led the Wildcats with 14 points on the night. RJ Morris contributed 13 points. Kendall Robertson had seven on the night, including a breakaway dunk. Zeke Fuentes had four points, Stephen Sisco had two points, Javier Gomez had two points and Caden McHatton added a point.
