Madill used the sharp shooting of Zeke Fuentes, RJ Morris and Kendall Robertson beyond the arc in the last 2:49 of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth frame to separate themselves from Plainview in a 50-36 victory on senior night.
Fuentes fueled the surge by sinking two consecutive three-pointers from 35-feet away in the waining moments of the third. Plainview was forced to take a timeout with 2:12 left in the third. That pushed Madill ahead 36-29 by the end of the third frame after the two foes traded buckets for much of the second half to that point. Morris nailed two threes in that stretch to widen the margin. Robertson added one of his own as the ‘Cats opened a 48-32 edge by the last moments of the contest. Madill then spread the floor to drain the clock and lock up the triumph. It was win 18 for the Wildcats in the season. Madill welcomes Kingston Tuesday in what could be crucial in deciding the Lake Country Conference title for the boys division. Fuentes bolstered the ‘Cats winning effort with 22 points on the evening. Morris and Robertson both finished with nine points. Senior Nick Northcutt tossed in five points and River Shaw recorded two points.
The girls actually tied the game 44-all in the late stages of the fourth quarter on a Josyln Stumblingbear basket, but the Lady Indians outscored the Lady ‘Cats and closed the contest on a 12-3 run to get the 56-47 win during senior night. Weiberg continued her assault on the Madill girls 5-on-5 record book. She became the record holder for most three-point field goals in a season with 58. The former marker was held by Meagan Carter Rose with 56. Weiberg will continue to build on that record with each additional three the balance of the season.
The Lady ‘Cats trailed 16-10 by the end of the first frame. And saw themselves down 40-32 by the conclusion of the third before making a 12-4 run to knot the contest.
Weiberg led the way with 20 points. Fellow senior Abbie Lambertsen gave Madill 12 points. Braylee Schneider bucketed nine points. Haylee Elkins contributed two points and Allyson Knight finished with two points.
